uHey Limited, a Hong Kong-based SportTech startup, officially launched WayMe – a smart navigator application designed to enhance safety for outdoor adventurers. It’s not just an application, but a flaming passion for hiking of Mr. Rainer, the founder of uHey, and the ideas behind WayMe. In this inspiring journey, the NTQ team is proud to be a part of this cooperation, where we work as a team together to bring the aspiration of Rainer & uHey into a real-life product for the global hikers community.

This partnership between NTQ & uHey has become a defining story of how technology, when built with business goals in mind, can turn one’s passion into a realistic idea that brings valuable impacts to the community of passionate hikers, curious explorers & adventurers all over the world.

A call that awakens an idea

The vision of WayMe is simple yet meaningful: To create a safer way to explore the outdoors. From a call from Rainer’s deeply worried wife during a treacherous hike in Hong Kong, he realized the need for a smart navigator that leads hikers to the right tracks, while keeping their loved ones informed at all times. Looking into a broader scope, he found out that there are millions of people engaging in hiking across regions like Hong Kong and Taiwan, yet many still face dangers due to poor communication, a lack of real-time tracking, or insufficient emergency tools.

WayMe was born from this insight: to build an application that supports safe, connected, and informed outdoor journeys. But to bring this ambitious vision to life, uHey needed more than a development team, they needed a partner capable of quickly translating business intent into a reliable digital platform. From the initial idea, uHey’s team came to connect with NTQ to find the perfect balance that turns the aspirations of the community into a breakthrough technology solution.

Brings safety on the go

Outdoor adventures, from running, hiking, to mountain climbing, often involve several risks of rugged terrain, navigation loss, and limited direct medical support during emergencies. Realizing these pain points, NTQ and uHey worked together to formulate a WayMe application offering a safety navigator that ensures the hikers are going in the right direction, right place, and stay connected with their loved ones through their own compact smartphone devices (IoS & Android).

The core objective was to create a smart companion for outdoor activities, allowing users to create custom routes, track their movement progress in real time, monitor detailed performance metrics (such as speed, distance, and elevation), off-route alerts and most importantly, send emergency alerts to designated contacts when users face danger – One of the most unique & specialized functions that the application can offer compared to other competitors in the market.

From a technical standpoint, NTQ applied a combination of advanced technologies to bring the WayMe app to life. By leveraging Mapbox and Turf.js, we delivered accurate geolocation and geofencing capabilities essential for safety tracking in outdoor environments. The development team also utilized a hybrid approach, combining Flutter with native modules to ensure cross-platform performance, seamless integration, and responsiveness across devices. These modern tools allowed us to implement real-time tracking, offline route access, and emergency alert functions with precision, delivering not just a working product but a robust technical foundation that can scale with WayMe’s long-term business vision.

To ensure the mutual understanding of the project’s goal, NTQ approached the project with a solution-driven and proactive mindset. Our engineers took the initiative to research, experiment, and rapidly master the necessary tools to ensure timely and effective implementation. Throughout the development process, we maintained daily communication with the uHey team, providing regular progress updates, resolving unclear requirements, and adapting quickly to new priorities.

Our flexibility and commitment to client success allowed us to align seamlessly with uHey’s fast-paced timeline and high expectations. Together, we redefined functional flows, clarified user journeys, and continuously iterated to ensure that each feature performed to specification and delivered real user value.

Bringing passion into the community

Over countless challenges of racing through deadlines, identifying requirements, solving the maths, and piloting, NTQ successfully helped uHey to turn WayMe into a finalized product, leading to a successful soft launch happening during the past month. While it’s all the beginning of the long journey ahead, WayMe has received numerous positive feedback for its stability, practical values & utilities from users, including sports influencers from Hong Kong & Taiwan. This success laid a foundation for the continuation of cooperation between NTQ & uHey in developing additional add-ons in the later project phase.
