Musk gets Twitter for $44 billion, to cheers and fears of ‘free speech’ plan 

After over one week after Elon Musk announced his offer to buy Twitter, on April 25th, Twitter accepted the deal. Upon completion of the transaction, the control of the 16-year-old social media platform populated by millions of users and global leaders will shift to the world richest-person.

Apple to host annual developers’ conference online for third year in a row

The tech giant, Apple Inc announced its annual developers’ conference will return in an all-online format again for the third year in a row, from June 6 to June 10. 

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, this Worldwide Developers Conference was held in San Jose, California, with thousands of developers from around the world and Apple employees in attendance.

Meta to start testing money-making tools for its metaverse 

As a key part of its plan to create a metaverse, Meta platforms started to test making-money tools on Horizon worlds. Those tools will allow users to sell digital assets and experiences within the company’s immersive platform and will be available initially to a handpicked set of users.

Amazon and Google just closed out their worst months on Wall Street since 2008

The two internet giants, Amazon and Google parent Alphabet, have seen weaker-than-expected quarterly report results last week. This is the biggest monthly decline since the 2018 financial crisis and seen as the consequence by a combination of macroeconomic factors, such as the Ukraine war and the pandemic.

EU sets new online rules for Google, Meta to curb illegal content 

After more than 16 hours of negotiations, the agreement named the Digital Services Act (DSA) was set. Under this new internet rule, U.S tech giants, such as Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta, will have to do more to tackle illegal content or risk hefty fines.

Top 10 Sao Khue awards winners post 696 million USD in revenue 

At the end of April, the most prestigious technology award in Vietnam, Sao Khue 2022, took place in the center of Hanoi and honored the 174 products, services, and solutions from 113 companies.

Vietnam maintains its place among top 10 best countries for software outsourcing

After more than two decades of development, the Vietnamese IT service industry has gained many outstanding achievements and placed in the top 10 best countries for software outsourcing. So far, this industry has attracted nearly 300,000 employees, with the revenue reaching over $3 billion last year.

VN’s digital economy revenue reaches $53 billion in the first quarter 

In the recent meeting held by the National Committee on Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Information and Communications revealed a report and mentioned the increasing contribution of the digital economy to Vietnam’s economy. Its revenue reached US$53 billion in the first quarter of this year.

Vietnam: Innovation attracts large venture capital 

In recent years, Vietnam has made drastic changes in mechanisms and policies for innovation, despite many difficulties caused by Covid-19. It is reflected in the Global Innovation Ranking  (GII), where Vietnam moved from 55th place in 2015 to 44th of 132 last year.

Information-Communications Ministry and Qualcomm intensify cooperation on 5G technology 

This April 12, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long had a meeting with ST Liew, vice president of Qualcomm Technologies Inc. to discuss future cooperation on 5G and 6G technology. It’s an important step in the plan to bring 5G to cover 95% of Vietnam’s population over the next two years.
